Rates & Coverage

Psychology Treatment Rates & Insurance Coverage

As of January 1, 2026, our standard psychology treatment rate is $240 for a 50-minute individual session.
The initial session is longer—80 minutes at $360 — to allow time for a thorough intake and to begin exploring your goals for therapy in depth.

Any services we provide outside of the therapy hour, such as consultations with other professionals, report writing, letters, or form completion, are billed at one-fifth of the hourly rate for every 10 minutes. If a session extends beyond the scheduled 50 minutes, that additional time is also billed incrementally.

If you have questions about billing or would like more information about insurance or WCB coverage, please feel free to reach out.

Tax-Deductible Services

Psychological services, acupuncture, and some other health-related services may be eligible to claim as medical expenses through the Canada Revenue Agency’s Medical Expense Tax Credit. Please keep your receipts for each session, as these may be useful when filing your tax return or submitting expenses to an accountant.

Eligibility can vary depending on the service, practitioner designation, province, and your individual tax circumstances. Clients are encouraged to confirm with their accountant or the CRA. Many clients are surprised to learn that supportive services such as therapy and acupuncture may not only contribute to their mental health and recovery, but may also provide a financial benefit at tax time.

Insurance Coverage & Direct Billing

At Genovese Trauma & PTSD Recovery, we understand that navigating insurance can feel overwhelming, so we do our best to make the process as easy as possible. We offer direct billing for many insurance providers, allowing you to focus on your care rather than paperwork.

The insurance providers listed below are generally available for our clinic services. Please note that direct billing availability may vary by service and practitioner.

Here are just some of the insurance providers we work with:

  • Alberta Blue Cross
  • ASEBP Alberta School Employee Benefits Plan
  • Canada Life
  • Canadian Construction Workers Union
  • Chambers of Commerce Group Insurance
  • CINUP
  • Cowan
  • Desjardins
  • Equitable Life
  • First Canadian
  • GMS, GSC (Green Shield Canada)
  • Industrial Alliance
  • Johnston Group
  • SunLife
  • TELUS AdjudiCare

As it currently stands, our Doctor of Acupuncture, Hailey Bajzar, is able to offer direct billing for:

Alberta Blue Cross, Sun Life, and Green Shield only.

This is a partial list. If you do not see your insurance provider listed, please feel free to contact us to confirm whether direct billing is available.

We may also be able to accommodate direct billing through motor vehicle accident claims, disability insurance, or other third-party insurance providers, depending on the policy and approval requirements.

Maddalena Genovese Registered Psychologist is also an approved provider for:

  • Medavie Blue Cross
  • TELUS Health
  • providerConnect
  • Workers' Compensation Board (WCB)
  • Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC)
  • Canadian Armed Forces (CAF)

To make your first appointment as smooth as possible, we recommend checking with your insurance provider ahead of time to confirm your coverage. Whether your plan is through your employer or purchased personally, it helps to know what services are covered.

If your plan does not allow for direct billing, no problem — we will provide a detailed receipt so you can submit it for reimbursement.

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please let us know at least 2 business days in advance. Sessions cancelled with less than 2 business days’ notice will be charged the full session fee.

We understand that life happens, but when a session is missed or cancelled late, it’s time that could have been offered to someone else in need. This policy helps ensure that we both make the most of our time together and that we can continue to offer timely support to all clients.

Thank you for your understanding and consideration.

Payment Options

Payment is due at the end of each session. We accept e-transfer, credit card, and direct billing to your insurance provider (when available). Please note that credit card payments include a 3.5% administration fee. You’ll receive an electronic receipt after each session, which you can use for insurance reimbursement or tax purposes. If there’s ever a delay in receiving your receipt, just let us know—we’ll be happy to follow up and make sure you have what you need.
